A Parent's Guide To Helping Kids Prepare For Auditions

“Get Cast On Food Network Kids Baking Competitions”

A Parent's Guide To Helping Your Child Prepare For Auditions

Kids love competitive baking shows. From cupcake wars to watching contestants whip up an edible masterpiece from a basket of clashing ingredients, kids consume episode after episode and dream about being on national television with the likes of Duff Goldman or Gordon Ramsey.

However, the reality is that most children between the ages of 8 and 13 don’t have the culinary skills or the dessert portfolio required to get cast on these baking competitions.

Casting directors are looking for specific characteristics and deliverables that set one contestant apart from another and your child’s chances for success increase dramatically if you come to the audition prepared.

Based on my experience, I’ve put together a checklist to help you guide your child toward a successful baking show audition.

This checklist highlights the four areas casting directors will look at to find the next up-and-coming kid baker.

  • Learn what casting directors are looking for in applicants.
  • Learn what kind of baking skills kids need to know.
  • Hear advice from parents who have experience with the application process - all the way to the final selections.
  • Join other parents who are in the same situation.
  • Connect with other kids who love baking.
